John O'Halloran is Head of School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences, where he holds the Chair in Zoology, at University College Cork. He is a member of the UCC Governing Body, where he chairs the Strategy and Innovation Committee and he is a member of the University Finance Committee. He is a former Vice Head of College of Science, Engineering and Food Sciences, a role he fulfilled for five years. He was awarded his Ph.D. in 1987 and was awarded a D.Sc by the National University of Ireland for his published works in 2009. He has published over 200 research papers and a number of books, the most recent being Bird Habitat's in Ireland. He is Vice-President of the British Trust for Ornithology and an advisor to the European Environment Agency at Copenhagen. He has held academic posts in Cardiff, Maine and delivered over 200 lectures across Europe, North America and Bermuda. He was awarded the President's prize for Teaching and honorary membership of the Students Union of Ireland for his contributions to graduate education: policies and structures. John is an ornithologists with an interest in birds and forests- and people, but not necessarily in that order!
